Apart from announcing Windows 10 as the next official and major version of Windows, Microsoft also introduced it as the next major version for Windows Phone, as well! So this confirms that the desktop-notebook PC operating system is also merging with the mobile OS.
This was officially confirmed during the Q&A which followed the presentation of Microsoft in San Francisco, during which, in answer about the question of Windows 10 being the next version for mobile OS, Terry Myerson and Joe Belfiore noted, "The best way to think of it, it will be a natural step forward from the Windows 8.1 model." The only thing that will probably missing from the newest version is the desktop user interface.
